Some tips for a successful audition:
Choose a solo you can play well. Have it well-prepared. The adjudicators are not interested in when you started learning the solo; they will judge you on how well you play it. Choose a solo that shows off your ability. It should not be too easy, but if it is beyond your ability, it will hurt your audition score.
Practice your scales. You will be asked to play scales in up to three sharps or three flats.
Sight reading is a part of each audition. Practice sight reading with your teacher at each lesson.
Be early for your audition, so that you can complete any necessary paperwork, warm up and be ready to do your best. We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time. Remember, everyone wants you to do well at your audition!

Audition Requirements for Bells:
To audition for the Bell Ensemble, two years of musical experience is suggested. This may include reading music for choir, piano lessons, strings, winds, brass, percussion. In short, the youth needs to be able to read music.
A table of bells will be setup. The youth auditioning will play with other youth. After being instructed on how to hold and ring the bell, each musician will be assigned a bell or two, depending on age and experience. The musician will be asked to play the marked music and follow the conductor’s direction. Judges will be looking for counting accuracy, the ability to follow directions, and how well each musician does as part of a group.
